Sacred Heart had taken a 2-1 lead earlier in the fifth, but a throwing error on what would have been the third out allowed another Trojan to cross the plate and extend the inning. Michael Fruge then capped the frame with a two-run single.
The Trojans added another run in the sixth inning on a single from Benjamin Bergeron and one in the seventh on Hunter Reed’s RBI single to right.
Crowley rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Luke Ancelet and Mackay Mouton were issued free passes to start the frame. Mickey Morgan then reached base on an error before Kaleb Istre drove in two runs on a single to left field. Ben Broussard followed with a single down the left field line to plate two more runs.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning.
Sacred Heart got on the board in the top of the first when Nick Firmin walked and scored on Fruge’s triple to left field.
Crowley answered in the bottom of the frame when Jon-Riley Mouton scored on a wild pitch after singling to start the inning.
Sacred Heart’s Andy LaFleur earned the victory after pitching four scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Phillip Vidrine was credited with the save. He gave up four runs on two hits and two walks.
Crowley’s Bubba Daigle was tagged with the hard-luck loss. He gave up four runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks.
Ancelet pitched the first two innings and gave up one run on two hits and two walks. He struck out three.
Mackay Mouton and Jon-Riley Mouton each gave up one run in one inning of work.
Morgan, Istre, Broussard, Jon-Riley Mouton and Luke Stutes each had one hit for the Gents.
The Trojans were led by Fruge’s 2-for-4 performance that included a triple and three RBI. Evan Mire added two hits while Reed and Bergeron each had one hit.
The Gents will be in action again this evening when they play host to Mamou at 5 o’clock.
