ROBERT -- Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L are searching for a driver who struck a Hammond bicyclist on LA 445 Saturday and left the victim lying in the road.

Troopers discovered a fatal hit-and-run crash scene on LA 445 approximately two miles north of US 190 in Tangipahoa Parish.

The crash before dawn took the life of a 58-year-old Hammond bicyclist and is expected to have occurred sometime before midnight late Friday evening.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as the bicyclist was traveling north on LA 445 when he was stuck from behind by an unknown maroon-colored sedan.

After impact, the suspect vehicle fled northbound on LA 445 leaving the bicyclist lying on the east shoulder of the roadway.

Troopers are currently working to locate next of kin for the victim at which time the victim’s identity will be released.

Troopers are actively searching for the hit-and-run vehicle believed to be a maroon colored sedan, possibly a Saturn, with damage to its right front bumper, quarter panel, and windshield.
