Services scheduled for former LSU All-American George Rice

SEALY, Texas -- Services will be Thursday for former LSU football All-American George Rice. He died Dec. 26 at age 66.

Ricel, a native of Liberty, Miss., was a two-way first team All-State lineman at Istrouma in Baton Rouge before joining the Tigers in 1962.

He played offense and defense on the “White Squad” of the three-platoon team.

He was an All-American in 1965 and was drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bears of the NFL, signing instead with AFL’s Houston Oilers.

He played for the Oilers four years and was an assistant coach with them in 1975-76.

Survivors include his wife Carol, a son and a daughter.

Schmidt of Bellville, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
