Interment will be in the St. Francis Cemetery, Iota, LA.
Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Dufner Daigle of Rayne, two grandchildren, Jennifer Renee' Daigle and Christopher Ray Daigle of Rayne, three sisters, Sue Lyons and husband Dave of Crowley, Bobbie Braun and husband Dan of LA and AR, Gail McFarland of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Blaine Francis Daigle, parents, Francis Marion McFarland and Geraldine Rutledge, two aunts, Ruby Lewis and Edna Mae John.
She was born Tuesday, December 31, 1935 in Eunice, LA, daughter of the late Francis Marion Mc Farland and the late Geraldine Rutledge McFarland.
Shirley graduated from St. Francis High School in Iota and Hotel Dieu in Beaumont, TX receiving her RN nursing degree. She practiced nursing for over 40 years.Shirley was an avid horsewoman, competing in dressage and western events, as well as trail riding, jumping and being with horse friends, she has owned many horses throughout her career and her horse Will a Buckskin gelding has been the love of her life.Her spiritual life has been one of serving her church and community. Ms. McFarland was received into the 3rd Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 1990 and took her Vows in 1990 member of the Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Co-Ordinator of Adoration Chapel, Eucharistic Minister, St. Joseph roasry group and Good Samaritian, St. Joseph Parish Youth Group - World Youth day 2000.
Rosaries will be recited Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. with the Carmelite Order and the parish at 7:00 p.m..
Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 12:00 noon until 10:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 23, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m..
