PORT ARTHUR, TX –– Sister Nettie Hazel Wycoff Evans was born on April 13, 1921, in Rayne, to the late Charlie and Florence Evans.

On Friday, January 18, 2013, she was called to eternal rest in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Florence Evans; two sons Warren Coleman and Andrew Wycoff; and 14 siblings.

Sis. Nettie accepted Christ at an early age at Cunningham CME Church in Rayne. After moving to Port Arthur she became a member of Carter Chapel CME Church for over seventy-five years. Sis. Nettie loved her church and even after her health failed she attended Sunday School and church whenever she could. She faithfully served on the Bereavement Committee, Class Leader #3, President of Usher Board #1, a Lifetime Member of the Women’s Missionary Council, and an Annual Conference Delegate for many years. She also represented Carter Chapel at the Interdenomination of Christian Women Fellowship.

Sis. Nettie leaves to cherish her memories, five daughters, Patricia Hopkins (Floyd) of Houston, TX, Nettie Scypion, Shari Gage (Thomas), Abbie Buckley, Antoinette Henry; three sons, Kenneth Wycoff (Mary), and Adrian Henry (Ella) all of Port Arthur; Everett Wycoff (Ida) of Rayne; one brother, George Evans of Port Arthur; five sister-in-laws, Carolyn Evans of Port Arthur, Hattie Churchill and Jean Coleman-England of Jacksonville, IL, Emma Coleman of Beaumont, TX and Mable Davis of Lake Charles; 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren; a devoted friend and longtime neighbor. Barbara Berry; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Visitation was scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Carter Chapel CME Church.

Funeral services began at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rodney Wooten, presiding, and Minister Reginald Scypion eulogist.

Burial was held at Live Oak Cemetery Mausoleum, with services under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home of Port Arthur.
