Soldier from Mamou collapses, dies at Fort Hood

FORT HOOD, Texas – Army officials said Sgt. 1st Class Randy Richard, 40, of Mamou, La., died after collapsing while standing in formation here on Tuesday, March. 29.

The cause of the death is under investigation.

Richard was a decorated automated logistical specialist at this armored corps headquarters base.

He joined the Army in February 1991 and was assigned to

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Brigade Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade. 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Fort

Hood, since November 2010.

He was a two-deployment veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Richard’s awards and decorations included the four Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, six Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, United Nations Medal, NATO Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Survivors include a wife, Tracy.
