St. Martin traffic stop yields $793,000 worth of pot -- that's 400 pounds

BREAUX BRIDGE -- The stop of a vehicle following another too closely I-10 on Thursday yieled three quarters of a million dollars worth of marijuana.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's SLICE Unit made the stop of a Chevy Avalanche about 7:30 a.m.

During the stop, agents said, they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A consensual search of the vehicle yielded a firearm, and approximately 400 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $793,000.

Thomas Benson III, 30, of Houston, Texas, was arrested for Following Too Close, Possession With Intent To Distribute Schedule I CDS (Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
