Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with a rosary being recited at 4:00 P.M. in St. Theresa Catholic Church Family Life Center, Duson, LA, and will continue on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the same location.
Committal services and entombment will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in Mater Dolorosa Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, Plaucheville, LA.
Mr. Rabalais passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 4:29 P.M. in a Lafayette hospital.
A native of Plaucheville, and longtime resident of Duson, Mr. Rabalais was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. He was a graduate of SLI (now known as U.L. Lafayette), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. He continued his education at L.S.U., where he earned a Masters of Arts degree in education.
Mr. Rabalais taught school and served as principal at Duson Elementary School for many years. He was well-loved by the students and teachers, and his love for the children he served was very evident. Mr. Rabalais could be seen on the school playground during recess each day, and his influence in the lives of many will live on for years to come.
An avid gardener, Mr. Rabalais was generous with the bounty of his garden, sharing vegetables with his many friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife of over 52 years, Lillian Rousse Rabalais of Duson; daughters, Roselle LeCorgne and husband, Lyle of Lafayette, Mary Rabalais of Cordova, TN, and Madeline Blackburn of Odessa, FL; son, David Paul Rabalais of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Thomas Hebert of Lafayette, Sydney Blackburn of Odessa, FL, and Seth Blackburn of Odessa, FL; and close family friend, Cynthia Cormier Adkinson, who Mr. Rabalais considered his fourth daughter, and her husband, Jeff of Duson.
Preceding Mr. Rabalais in death were his parents, Gaston Louis Rabalais and Agnes Bessie Couvillion Rabalais; and sister, Marie Rabalais.
