HOLLY RIDGE – A teenager died when she apparently tried to retrieve two puppies rather than exit a burning house.

Angle Johnston, 17, engaged to be married in December, died with fire destroyed the parsonage next to Shady Grove Church of God north of U.S. 80.

Her father, the Rev. Kenny Johnson, and her fiance escaped the pre-dawn blaze.

The father, alerted by a smoke alarm, lead his daughter and the fiance to a window and when he reached to pull her through to safety she had gone back in the house, apparently to get the puppies.

Her body was found in a bedroom.
