Texas truck driver indicted in crash that killed Port Barre girl

A St. Landry Parish Grand Jury has indicted truck driver, David R. Cox, of Grand Prairie, Texas on one count of negligent homicide of a minor and 21 counts of negligent injuring in the December 3 bus accident that killed 5- year-old Karen Stoute.

Cox's rig crashed into the rear of a school bus on U.S. 190 as it was transporting children to school.

A negligent homicide of a minor charge carries a sentence of prison at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence for not less than two nor more than five years.

The negligent injuring charge caries a fine of not more than $500 or imprisonment for not longer than six months.
