An Acting Up (in Acadiana) Production

In Residence at the Acadiana Center for the Arts

The Summer Youth Shakespeare Ensemble—an Acting Up (in Acadiana) program in residence at the AcA—presents William Shakespeare’s LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST in celebration of its ten year anniversary. Over 40 children ages ten through senior in high school take on the roles. LOVE’s LABOUR’S LOST humorously plays with the duality of wit, words, education, love, oaths and more. A very contemporary interpretation of the piece entertains with boy bands, fashionistas, rapping professors, mistaken identities, misplaced love letters, and more.

LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST is the culmination of the Ensemble’s 15-day intensive performing arts camp, where students study all aspects: music, dance, design, acting, and more. The camp is equivalent to a language immersion program, allowing the young actors to perform a full Shakespearean play just eleven days after they are cast. This program is supported in part by the generosity of the Stuller Family Foundation and PASA’s Hill Bonin Scholarship program.

Staff for the program and the production include: Hector LaSala, set design & instructor; Esther Winn, choreographer & dance instructor; Danny Devillier, composer & music instructor; Chad Trahan, costume design & instructor, and Amy Waguespack, director. Other instructors and interns include: Hannah Briggs, Ricky Briggs, Lian Cheramie, Brian Crutchfield, Harmony Decker, Kara Guarisco, Jesse LaSala, Heather Pierre, George Saucier and Sara White.

Acting Up (in Acadiana) and the SYSE staff will also host alumni from past years in celebration of their ten year anniversary with an opening night reception, a pre-show panel discussion at 7 PM on July 21st with a catered dinner following the show and a pool party following the July 22nd matinee.
