Funeral services were held at Centenary United Methodist Church, Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. for Thelma Guidry Fortner, 92, who died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at her residence in Rayne.

Interment was in the Rayne Cemetery Inc., Rayne.

Surviving are three daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Cormier and husband, George, of Branch, Diane Brown and husband, Alan ,of Baton Rouge, Janice Rogers and husband, Tommie, of Lafayette; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Douglas “J.D.” Fortner, Jr.; one grandson, Jeff R. Brown; parents, Sevigne “Ruben” and Virginia Guidry; one brother, Owen Guidry; and five sisters, Beulah Bazerque, Grace Alford, Maude Guidry, Rena Wright and Dorothy Link.

She was born Tuesday, August 10, 1920, in Duson, daughter of the late Sevigne “Ruben” and Virginia Guidry.

Mrs. Thelma loved her flowers in her yard and pots, worked hard to keep something blooming all the time.

She was an avid church worker and held numerous positions on the Administrative Board including chairman, vice chairman and chairman of different committees and a member of United Methodist Women’s organization.

She worked as a secretary for South Rayne Elementary for 18 years before retiring in 1985.

Friends were received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, Monday, January 28, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 29, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m..
