Shortly after talking to the men during routine patrol in Red Chute Bayou in the Loggy Bayou WMA in Bossier Parish, Senior Agents John Blalock and Frank Reger found an 8-foot long alligator floating nearby, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Questioned, Jon Alsup, 31, of Coushatta and William Whitley, 26, of Princeton allegedly admitted shooting the gator.
The pair were charged with taking an alligator without a license and during a closed season and for not abiding by WMA regulations.
Alsup was also cited for an expired boat registration and failing to comply with personal flotation device requirements.
The suspects could be sentenced to almost a year in jail if convicted.
