ULM's Ali Lucas places second at Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - ULM women's golfers Ali Lucas and Lina Lagergren each earned career-low results by finishing second and tied for third, respectively, amongst the78-player field of the Blue Raider Invitational Tuesday afternoon. As a team the Warhawks dropped one place to finish fourth overall on the par-72, 6,931 yard Old Fort Golf Club and earn its third-straight top-four finish to close out the fall season.

Lucas, a former Notre Dame standout, shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round to finish with a career-low 54-hole score of 221 and earn runner-up honors, finishing just two strokes back of medalist Karisa Akin of Middle Tennessee who shot 219 total. Lagergren also totaled a career-best 54-hole score of 222 with a final round 74 and finish just a stroke back from Lucas.

Sophomore Lucas' best finish in a tournament prior to the Blue Raider Invitational was her third place result in last year's UAB Fall Beach Blast. Lagergren, a junior, tied for fifth at the HBU Husky Invitational in the spring of 2010 for her previous career-best finish.

ULM shot 306 in the final round to total 912 and fall from third entering today to place fourth overall in the 13-team field. With the fourth place result the Warhawks have earned a top-six finish in each event they have competed in this season.

Tournament host Middle Tennessee earned the team title after matching its second round score of 293 for a combined 886 and finish 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Lamar (900). Arkansas State leap-frogged the Warhawks to claim third place at 908 total while UALR completed the top-five with 913 total.

Jennifer Park closed out the fall with a seven-over-par 79 to total 231 and tie for 25th individually. Emily Stratton tied for 46th overall with 238 total while Kathy Sterling finished five strokes back tied for 57th with a combined 243.

ULM concluded the fall season with the final round of the Blue Raider Invitational. The Warhawks will resume action in the spring when they participate in the Claud Jacobs Invitational Feb. 19-20, 2012.
