UPDATE: Laverne pleads guilty

At a preliminary trial hearing this morning, Brandon Scott Lavergne, 33, of Swords pleaded guilty to the murders of Lisa Pate and Michaela "Mickey" Shunick.

In exchange for his guilty plea as well as showing police where Shunick's body was and recreating the events of May 19, Lavergne's maximum sentence is now life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Brandon Lavergne, accused of murder in the Michaela "Mickey" Shunick and Lisa Pate cases, is led into court by Lt. Jack Lightfoot and Detective Stephen Bajat. Lavergne's preliminary hearing begins at 10 a.m. this morning.The Post-Signal will have more on the hearing as soon as details become available.
