Following three home games and a 4-0 start to the 2011 football season, the Rayne High Wolves will take it on the road Friday as they will travel to Longville to meet the South Beauregard Knights of 4-3A.

Rayne High will try to spoil the Knights’ homecoming during their final contest before the start of district play.

With the hope of entering district with a 5-0 start, the Wolves will try to follow-up from their 28-12 Homecoming win over Ville Platte last week.

The Knights (3-1) slipped by Iota last week, squeaking by the Bulldogs in the final minutes of play with a 30-28 come from behind win. During the non-district contest, seven lead changes were recorded during the back and forth ballgame which resulted in a very physical contest.

The player to watch during this week’s game for the Knights will be lead rusher Joe Ledet, who finished last week with 132 yards on 26 carries to lead the Knight offense with three scores.

Rayne High was led on the ground during the Ville Platte win by sophomore Trent Duhon and junior Jalen Williams. Duhon had 13 carries for 150 yards, while Williams collected 107 yards on 17 carries.

Duhon has filled in nicely for senior Brody Bourque who is still out with an injury.

Hoping to lead the Wolf defense once again are Billy Marcantel, Frank Leopaul and Lacy Granger, who combined for 15 tackles and a quarterback sack during the Homecoming win.

The Iota contest was a very physical game for South Beauregard resulting in a number Knights banged up. Rayne High will see if those injuries will affect Friday’s play.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at South Beauregard High stadium Friday evening in Longville.
