In a hitting bonanza, the Rayne High offense included Ariel Meche 1-3, double, RBI; Mariel Meche 1-2; Kelsey Hollier 2-3; Tori Mott 1-2; Alex Peltier 1-3; Courtney Boutin 1-2; Caitlin LeDoux 2-4 and Brandi Alleman 1-3.

In earlier action last Thursday, Rayne High was nipped 5-4 by North Vermilion. A two-run homer fifth inning vaulted North Vermilion ahead of the Lady Wolves for the district win.
Mariel Meche was on the loosing end of the contest, throwing four strikeouts, five walks and allowing four hits in the six-inning ballgame.
Leading the Lady Wolves on offense were Tori Mott (2-4) and Amanda Bourque (2-4, 2 RBI’s, double).
With a win today against Abbeville, the Lady Wolves could end their district schedule in a three-way tie with Notre Dame and North Vermilion. Time will tell.
The Rayne High Wolves slipped past Abbeville, 1-0 during a district contest held Tuesday at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne.
The winning run was scored by Austin Meche in the bottom of the third, who reached base on a walk, tagging home on a passed ball tagged by Aaron Chiasson, who was 2-for-3 on the day.
Also recording stats for the Wolves for the win were Jacob Stelly (1-2) and Dakota Broussard (1-3).
Broussard collected the win on the mound for the Wolves fanning seven batters while giving up six hits.
“Believe it or not, our base running hurt us,” commented Rayne High Coach Jason Bonin of the win. “We hit pretty good and our defense stood strong, but we had some lapses that can’t continue if we want to keep winning ballgames.”
The Wolves presently stand at No. 23 in the rankings. With a couple of big wins, including a 7-5 non-district win over Hanson last week, the Wolves should remain in contention for post-season in the points system.
The Wolves will travel to Kaplan today (Thursday) for another district contest at 6 p.m.
