The Bernard-Bertrand House, the City of Rayne’s Cultural Center, and Cultural Director Cheryl McCarty reported a complete success for the 2010 annual summer program for children’s cultural activities.

This summer series was conducted the week of July 12-16, from 9 a.m. to noon daily for a number of children in attendance.

 Events enjoyed were:

Monday – Cajun Camp (included will be Mardi Gras mask making, learning a French song, learning Cajun dance steps and Cajun storytelling)

Tuesday – Mural Madness (local muralists invited to share the history and story of some of the city’s murals. Related coloring pictures and educational materials provided)

Wednesday – Everyday Etiquette and Manners (lessons conducted regarding basic etiquette and manners in social situations), along with a visit to Candyland Cottage)

Thursday – Frogs in Space (educational program which dealt with the history of Rayne and its contribution to the space program with tie-ins to NASA), concluded with paper airplane contest.

Friday – Swim Party (swimming activities at the Green Room pool).

All morning activities were educational, informative and fun. All supplies and snacks were provided, as well as a certificate of completion for each activity. There was no cost for attendance as provided by the City of Rayne, in addition to a special donaton by the Acadiana Sportsmen’s League.

Attending the week-long camp were Jake Breaux, Payton Broussard, Charlie Cantrell, Ella Cantrell, Caelan Comeaux, Caroline Comeaux, Madeleine Deville, Ethan Hattan, Caleb Hebert, Jake Hollier, Gabe Menard, Gracie Menard, Sydney Menard, Macknzie Olinger, Nolan Olinger, Katie Richard, Kori Richard and Annaleigh Thibodeaux.

Special thanks to volunteers Lillian Gathanga, Peris Gathanga, Ellen Guidry and Pam Hollingsworth for their assistance, along with Chamber Director Miles Boudreaux who assisted and provided educational information for the children.
