When Equitable Storage Company, LLC leached out the first salt dome caverns for natural gas storage at Lake Peigneur in the 1990s using the Chicot aquifer, there were no water use records kept. The USGS regularly monitored a few wells near where the drilling took place. Between the years 1950 to 1993 there was a 4 foot drop. There was no monitoring 1994-1999 when another 4 foot drop took place. The point being a 4 foot drop in 40 years, then no records until after the drilling 5 years later with another 4 foot drop.
