Mire - Genevieve "Joannie" Roach Hulin passed away peacefully and quietly on Tuesday, November 2, two thousand ten at Lafayette General Medical Center following a long illness.  She was 79 years of age and a resident of the Mire community.  She was the last born to Marcial and Jeanne Arabie Roach on February 14, 1931 in Acadia Parish.  She was a member of the Rayne High Class of 1950 and the co-founder of Hulco Printers, Inc. in Lafayette.

She leaves to mourn one son, Obie Hulin of Mire and his fiancé', Jenny Todd, of Carencro, one sister and brother-in-law, John and Lula Shelton of Mire and one sister-in-law, Masil Roach of Lafayette along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Odey Hulin.  She will be joining four sisters, Yolande Sonnier, Ethel Hutchinson, Wilma LeBlanc and Eloise Sonnier and one brother, Calvin Roach, in eternal rest.

As she was affectionately known to many, "Mrs. Joannie" will be remembered for her exceptional sense of humor and wit and her enduring love of animals, especially her beloved dogs, T-K and RayRay.  She was a loving mother and a truly devoted wife.  She was a lady of strong faith, determination and strength which was evidenced by all who knew and loved her.

A special thank you is extended to her wonderful caregivers and long-time friends, Marie Richard and Rita Menard, two very special nieces, Marcella Gildersleeve and Yvonne Meyers, and nurse, Gail Lynch, for their love and support during her illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00  pm Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire.  The Most Reverend Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate at the funeral mass.

Visiting hours will be from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm Wednesday and continue until funeral services at 1 pm Thursday.  A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Wednesday. 

Pallbearers will be Bob Gildersleeve, Adam Todd, Sean Ryder, Chad Leger, Roy Prejean Jr. and Bryan Gil.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Babineaux, John Meyers and Ryan Mire.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lafayette Animal Aid.
