On the day set aside for families to give thanks, November 25, Sandra Marie Golden, united with her family in Heaven. Sister Sandra Marie Golden was born to the late Watt Golden, Jr. and the late Amelia Yokum Golden on June 23, 1944 in Crowley. She made the decision to serve the lord at an early age and was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Branch under the pastorate of Rev. Stewart. She continued to serve at New Covenant Baptist in Chicago under the pastorate of Dr. Stephen Thurston until she came home and joined the fellowship of morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.
Her accomplishments include the following: a graduate of H.C. Ross High School in Crowley; Bachelor of Arts at Southern University in Carbondale, Ill.; master’s of education and master’s of special education at Chicago State College in Chicago. She had further studies in computer science at the University of Chicago in Chicago. She provided 41 years of dedicated service to the Chicago public school system in the areas kindergarten and elementary education.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Willie Carrier Spraggin (God-sent mother); six sisters, Mary Dugar of Crowley, Ameila Tomblin (Bruce) of River Ridge, Brenda Brumfield Lena Tate (Mike), Agnes White, all of Kenner, Linda Jenkins (Monroe) of Mobile, Ala.; two god-sisters, Vivian Spraggins and Drew_ Bell_ of Chicago; three brothers, Johnson Lewis (Rosa Jane) of Crowley, Watt A. Golden of Baton Rouge and Calvin Golden of Houston. She also leaves to cherish her memories, a dear friend of confidante, Clementine Browning of Chicago and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patricia Ann Golden Davis Kram.
Sandra’s belief was that there are two things one should never worry about, money and time.
