West Monroe’s sole loss of the season came at the worst time when Acadiana defeated the defending to claim the 5A crown.
The 27th-seeded Wreckin’ Rams were led by Micah Eugene, who rushed for 121 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
Franklinton 34, Karr 28 (OT)
Game two of Saturday’s triple-header proved to be a thriller as Franklinton defeated Karr in overtime to take the 4A trophy.
The game-winning touchdown came from Reggie Wilson who ran for a one yard touchdown on a fourth-and-goal.
Parkview Baptist 24, Patterson 20
The Parkview Baptist Eagles overcame a three point halftime deficit to defeat Patterson Friday night to claim the 3A crown, their second in four years.
Hezekiah Randolph was Parkview’s MVP with 13 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles’ victory was also aided by a total of four interceptions, including two by Brooks Godberry in the fourth quarter.
Evangel 28, John Curtis 14
A combined effort of Evangel’s offense and defense led the Eagles to the 2A title Friday over John Curtis, the 13th state title for the school.
The game-clinching touchdown came from Evangel’s defense, however. Brandon Stewart picked off a John Curtis pass with less than 30 seconds remaining and scored from 45 yards out. The game’s MVP was Evangel’s David Dee Duron with three total touchdowns (two rushing, one passing) during the game.
White Castle 32, Ouachita Christian 20
White Castle opened Saturday’s busy day of prep football action with a victory over Ouachita Christian to claim the 1A championship.
A total team effort led to the Bulldogs’ win with the team capitalizing on 10 turnovers and junior running back Tyre Bracken rushing for two touchdowns and a title-game class record of 235 rushing yards on 31 carries.
