Leslie Hurst of Lafayette, La., has been chosen to replace Larry Whitaker in the top job in Mississippi's capital city newspaper.
Hurst is currently president and publisher of The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La.
Both newspapers are owned by Gannett Corp., which also newspapers in Opelousas, Alexandria, Shreveport and Monroe, La.
Whitaker has been president and publisher of The Clarion-Ledger since 2006. He announced Tuesday that he'll retire Dec. 31.
Hurst's successor has not been announced.
