CROWLEY - One person was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning on James St. in Crowley.

A neighbor reported the fire to the Crowley Fire Department at approximately 2:30 a.m. By the time they arrived, the front of the Stutes Addition home was completely engulfed in flames. The fire was put out by CFD within a couple hours though they were still sifting through the rubble, looking for anything that may ignite as dawn approached.

The cause of the fire as well as the identity of the victim were unknown as of press time.

According to witnesses, when the neighbor saw the fire he attempted to alert the victim but was unsuccessful.

First responders at the scene included the Crowley Fire Department, the Crowley Police Department, the Acadia Parish Coroners Office and Acadian Ambulance.

The Crowley Post Signal will have more on this story as details become available.

I knew the person that was killed in the house fire on James street in the wee hours of Saturday Jan. 8th 2011. That person was very nice and I had several occasions to speak to this person as they passed by my home. The victim on one occasion even stopped to give me a hand. I thanked them very much. I am so sorry they had to die in such a sad and cruel way and pray that their family is comforted by knowing that this person was a thoughtful and helpful person.

I first want to say that I am so very sorry about the victim of this fire. But to the neighbor whom tried to get to the victim, you are a true hero in my eyes, risking your own life to try to save another.
