The Notre Dame Lady Pios and the Crowley Ladies each picked up key district victories while the Iota Lady Dogs stepped out of league play and picked up an impressive victory over Class 4A St. Louis.
In Crowley, Notre Dame’s Taylor Simon torched the nets for 21 points in a 56-25 thrashing of Rayne at A.B. Dore gym.
The victory sent the Lady Pios to 20-2 on the season and 2-0 in District 5-AAA play heading into Friday’s road showdown with Abbeville.
Simon scored 11 points in the first half, helping the Lady Pios jump out to a 29-15 advantage at the break.
The Lady Pios outscored the Lady Wolves 27-10 in the second half.
Simon was followed by Kylie Pannell with 10 points and Alex Miller with eight. Peyton Miller added five points; Lexie Trosclair scored four; Mallory Chiasson and Marie Ledet each had three and Mary Charles scored two.
The CHS Ladies improved to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in District 4-AAA play with a 43-22 road victory over Church Point.
Mercedes Rogers had the hot hand for Crowley, pouring in a game-high 25 points. Kara Wilridge followed with 12 points and Isis Broussard, Akeela Dugar and Tiara Dugar each scored two.
The Ladies will play host to Westlake Friday.
Iota (19-5, 4-0) drained six 3-pointers in its 36-30 home victory over St. Louis.
Anna Lege hit four long balls and led the charge with 14 points. Allison Baggett pitched in 13 points, Candace Sensat scored eight and Caroline Hebert finished with two.
Iota plays host to Pine Prairie Friday.
In boys’ action, Midland and Northside Christian both suffered defeats.
Midland dropped a 48-39 decision to ESA while Northside lost to Ascension Episcopal, 50-45.
Alan Vondenstein paced Midland with 11 points while Allen Fontenot had 10 and Andrew Hains scored nine
Northside was led by Pierce Rivera and Josh Wheeler with 23 and 10 points respectively.
