Iota improved to 22-5 overall and 7-0 in league play with the victory heading into Tuesday’s home showdown with Oakdale (6-1 in district).
The Lady Dogs opened Friday’s game on a tear, going on a 20-2 run before taking a 34-10 lead at the intermission.
Allison Baggett carried the bulk of the load in the first half, scoring 23 of her game-high 32 points in the first 16 minutes.
Iota went on to outscore Welsh 25-18 in the second half.
Baggett, who didn’t touch the court in the fourth quarter, also had 12 rebounds on the night to go along with her 32 points. She has now scored 30 points or better in seven of Iota’s last nine games.
Madison Meche and Anna Lege followed Baggett with six points each and Candace Sensat and Caroline Hebert each scored five. Adalie Wriborg added three points and Madison Smith scored two.
Northside Christian was also victorious, picking up a 77-49 victory over Starks.
The Warriors (15-7) jumped out to a 26-12 advantage in the first quarter and went on to outscore Starks 19-7 in the second frame to take a 45-19 lead at the break.
Northside went on a 22-16 run in the third quarter before Starks outscored the Warriors 14-10 in the final frame.
Ben Rogers led all scorers on the night with 20 points. Pierce Rivera followed with 17 points. Rivera also racked up 15 rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
BJ Starks pitched in 15 points and Grant Williams scored nine.
Northside will be in action again Tuesday when they play host to Johnson Bayou.
