The book will honor citizens who fought in any conflict or war. Citizens who lived in, or are living in Jeff Davis Parish, and have served in the military at any time (past and/or present) are encouraged to fill out a Record of Service form to share their stories. Relatives are also encouraged to provide information.
The completed Record of Service form(s), photo(s) and a photocopy of DD214 Discharge of the veteran(s) are to be sent to Live Oak Chapter, DAR, ATTN: Mary Sue Lyon, DAR Veteran Chairperson, 201 Pine Street, Welsh, LA 70591.
If sending in information on up to two veterans that were/are in the service, the Live Oak Chapter DAR asks that one book be purchased at the pre-ordered price of $30. If information on more than three veterans is sent in, Live Oak Chapter DAR needs an additional $2 per person (even if purchasing only one book). Book proceeds are used for various chapter projects.
Live Oak Chapter DAR will return any photos if requested, because keeping photos of family members are important. If anyone is interested in receiving a Record of Service form(s), please send a request to the address above. The deadline to send a form(s) in to that address is December 31, 2011.
The Live Oak Chapter, DAR has published 2009 Pictorial Directory of Jefferson Davis Parish Louisiana Patriots and Veterans, Volume One, telling stories of 304 veterans, who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Merchant Marines, National Guard, Coast Guard, Reserves, Womens Army Air Corps, Galvez Expedition, Colonial, Revolution, Indiana Union, Virginia/West Virginia Militia, Confederates, and Army Medical Corps.
The Live Oak Chapter DAR still has books left for sale. If anyone is interested in purchasing the 2009 Pictorial Directory, send a request to the address above.
