Hazel Babineaux Hamilton, 95, of Rayne passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 3:50 p.m. at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette.

Mrs. Hamilton was born April 1, 1915, and was a resident of Rayne.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette.

Funeral services will be held at Our Mother of Mercy Shrine Catholic Church in Rayne at 10:30 a.m., with Father Richard Wagner, S.S.J. officiating the services.

Burial will follow in Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Louis “Mykee” Babineaux and Donnatil “Matilya” Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Junious Joseph Pleasant; her husband, Luke “Pukee” Hamilton; her granddaughter, Diana Pleasant Lindsay; eight sisters; and eight brothers.

She was a dedicated health care provider. In addition, she was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Babineaux enjoyed cooking, making popcorn balls, and pecan candy for her family, relatives, and grandchildren.

Mrs. Babineaux is survived by her daughter-in-law, Annie Mae Douglas Pleasant of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren;and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Regional Medical Center for their support and care.
