A Eunice man has been charged with molestation of a juvenile girl over a period of about four years.

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said the initial complaint in the case was received on Jan. 12 of this year.

Investigators then met with an 18-year-old who said she had been sexually abused by someone known to her family from the time she was 13 until she turned 17.

On Wednesday, officers arrested Billy T. Bertrand, 50, of 181 Triple T Lane and charged him with one count of molestation of a juvenile and oral sexual battery.

Under rules of 27th District Court for sex offense cases, nothing else was released regarding the case, and all information in the case file from this point will be sealed.

That information includes any information regarding line-up, bond or bond application, arraignment or any other pre-trial activity, except for any grand jury report.

I am with "Friend in Eunice" comment. I thought people were suppose to be innocent till proven guilty! The so call Accuser is a Diagnosed Aberratal Liar! If the Sheriff Department Detective would have done at least half her job she would have been informed. As far as the detective saying she completed the investigation....how can that be if the only person she talked to was the so called accuser and her mother. I do not understand how backwards the system is now in St. Landry Parish!

I thought in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana and the United States of America you were innocent until proven guilty. I know this man very well and know for a fact that the Sheriff dept. has NOT COMPLETED an investigation into this matter. The detective in this case never interviewed the accused or any other witnesses involved. I personnaly think it is a crying shame that this can happen to an innocent man. I think the detective in charge should be brought up on charges of harassment also. I think that once this is settled, this man should sue the Sheriff(For making comments on a case he knows nothing about) and all else involed in hurting a good mans name. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!
