ABBEVILLE – Hunting alligators is easier for the Gator Queen than doing TV interviews.

Liz Cavalier Choate, 41, of Vermilion Parish is the newest of the “Swamp People”, a History Channel television series now in its second season.

Representatives of the channel were in Pierre Part, home of Tony “Choot’em, CShoot’em” Landry, the star of Swamp People back in August, looking for a distaff alligator hunter for the next season.

Cavalier, who has hunted alligators with her father Charles Dupre since she was 12, was the first name people in the community gave them.

Every alligator season sher hunts 2,900 acres near Houma. They contacted her and drove to Pecan Island in August.

They were amazed a woman could hunt and fish like I do,” said Cavalier.

They filmed her interview and brought it to the producers of the show. They liked what they saw.

Cavalier (what she goes by in the show) lives with her husband Justin Choate near Pecan Island. The two have been married for less than a year but they have been sharing duck blinds, deer leases and squirrel and alligator hunts for the last two years.

She is a native of Pierre Part, which is near Morgan City.

Cavalier was somewhat cautious about accepting the role because she said she was a “simple person.”

She finished hunting her gators the first week of the alligator season but the History Channel did not film her hunting. She joined Landry on his hunts and was the shooter.

The History Channel filmed them for three straight weeks, eight hours a day hunting alligators.

In her initial episode, she is introduced to Landry and said she is there to help him harvest his gators.

She said she was relaxed when hunting s with Landry.

“I got nervous when I had to do my interviews,” she said.

Cavalier did admit that she clashed with Landry on a few things. She did not want to say what but she encouraged everyone to watch the episodes to find out.

Cavalier is expected to appear on the April 14 or April 21 episode (Thursdays at 8 p.m.), but she is not 100 percent sure. She said when she makes her cameo debut, she is expected to be on the rest of the season.

The Choates are not exactly sure where they plan to watch her debut series. But one thing Cavalier did say after filming is that she is still the same person she was before the filming.

She is somewhat known around the Forked Island/Pecan Island area as “Gator Queen” because of her Swamp People debut. However, by the end of the month, Landry’s famous saying, “choot’em, choot’em” could be pushed aside by a new star named “Gator Queen.”
