The music will go on, but zydeco and Cajun performers will no longer have their own Grammy category.

The Recording Academy, which sponsors the Grammy music awards, has revised its competition, moving zydeco and Cajun music, which became a separate categorty just four years ago, into “Regional Roots”, where it will compete with other regions’ heritages.

Separate awards were also eliminated for several other categories.

Zydeo musician Chubby Carrier won this year’s award.

The first was won by Terrance Simien, who was a key figure in the campaign to achieve the separate category.
