In anticipation of this weekend’s ball and presentation, the Ebonite Civic and Social Club of Rayne, Inc., hosted the annual Debutante Tea on Saturday, April 30, at the Civic Center Mural Room.

Elaine Sias welcomed all in attendance, with the president delivering opening remarks.

Tea chairperson was Deanna Begnaud, and Evelyn Julian will serve as ball chairperson.

Once the debs were introduced, entertainment was provided by the C.M.E. Young Adult Choir, in addition to dancing by Keefer Young and “Rolling In The Deep” by Jasmine Evans.

Debs presented their talent and refreshments were enjoyed by all in attendance.

The 2011 Debutantes are:

Jalisa Rayé Shawn Cook, 17-year-old daughter of Connie Cook and Danny Wiltz. She is a junior at Rayne High School and will be escorted for the ball by Victor Fields, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Meaux, Jr.

Katherine Ann Meche, 16-year-old daughter of Carlas Duplechain and Donald Meche. The Rayne High School junior will be escorted by Ryan Larry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Larry, Sr.

Acreisha Deneé Rochon, 18-year-old daughter of Betty Martin and Joseph Martin. She is a Rayne High School junior and will be escorted by Juwan Sims, son of Germaine Babineaux and Robert Sims.

Franceta Bernice Wilson, 17-year-old daughter of Cathy Wilson and the late Waveen Wilson. The Rayne High School junior will be escorted by Andre Rochon, son of August and Barbara Rochon.

Raven Angelle Woods, 16-year-old daughter of Leola Young and Phil Woods. She is a junior at Rayne High School and will be escorted for the ball by Keefer Young, son of John and Tiffany Gibson.

Throughout the year, the young ladies have been involved in a number of Ebonite activities and social events that promote unity, sisterhood and spiritual growth among their attributes.

The culmination of their year together is this weekend’s annual Debutante Ball where the 2011 Debutante Queen will be crowned by the outgoing royalty, Jamie Lynn Price, daughter of Gwendolyn Brumfield and James Price.
