Josette Habetz’s creative design in the “Sound of Music” classification was named Best Overall Design during the 2011 Standard Flower Show presented by the Rayne Garden Club on Friday, April 29, at the Green Room in Rayne.

The Rayne Garden Club hosted its 2011 Standard Flower Show, “Rhythm of the Flowers,” on Friday, April 29, at the Green Room of the Rayne Civic Center Complex.
Chairperson Lisa Soileaux, Honorary Chair-person-Club President Hazel Prevost and Garden Club members welcomed guests to the afternoon event, complete with horticultural and design categories.
Winners in their categories that followed a variety of popular musical themes were noted in floral designs, including the following:
“White Christmas” - 1st place Antonia Hoffpauir, 2nd place Hazel Prevost, 3rd place Helen Garrett, and honorable mention Lisa Soileaux.
“Blue Suede Shoes” - 1st place Judy Guidry, 2nd place Ruth McBride, 3rd place Martha Pierret and honorable mention Chris Simpson.
“The Sound of Music” - 1st place Josette Habetz, 2nd place Julia Breaux, 3rd place Margaret Comeaux and honorable mention Helen Garrett.
“Yellow Submarine” - 1st place Julie Anna Manale, 2nd place Sepha Guidry, 3rd place Hazel Prevost and honorable mention Genny Marks.
The overall design winner was Josette Habetz for her unique musical entry in the “Sound of Music” category, with overall horticultural winners including Antonia Hoffpauir with the Award of Horticultural Excellence and two Awards of Merit, and Genny Marks with an Arboreal Award.
Special thanks to the City of Rayne for their assistance and providing the setting for this year’s flower show, Joyce LaLande, in addition to the many visitors and guests who attended.
