The Green Room in Rayne was the setting for a celebration on Saturday, May 28, 2011 in observance of the 60th wedding anniversary of Merrick and Margaret Young of Rayne.

The couple was married on June 10, 1951 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Their attendants were Jane (Andrus) Davis, sister of the bride, and Erwin C. Andrus (Porter), the bride’s brother, now deceased.

Mrs. Young is the former Margaret Ann Andrus, daughter of the late Erwin and Antonia Andrus, known as “Boobus and Duduce” in the Rayne area. She is a retired school teacher.

Mr. Young is the son of Hadley and Octavia Young. Now retired, “Coach” retired after serving as a teacher, coach and principal.

The couple was honored during the celebration by their four children, Pam Gibbens of Houston, Texas, Rick Young of Lafayette, Susan Roberts of Lafayette and Steven Young of Scott.

They also have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to family pictures, the reception decor included oriental yellow and Belladonner lilies and ferns.

Guests were served brisket and rolls, Caesar salad, bow tie pasta and shrimp, crawfish and meat pies, spinach and artichoke dip, chicken salad sandwiches, anti-pasta salad and smoked salmon, beverages, and a special anniversary cake, an ivory amaretto confection filled with raspberry and topped with yellow roses.

Approximately 60 guests were in attendance. Special guest was Mrs. Young’s sister, Jane Davis of Steamboat Spring, Colo.

Guests attended from Rayne, Crowley, Abbeville, Youngsville, Scott, Lafayette, Eunice, and points of Texas and Colorado.
