The search warrant was obtained as part of a six month investigation into the selling of mephedrone (bath salt). “During the course of this investigation, agents were able to make several purchases of Mephedrone from the owner of the business. At the conclusion of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the business,” stated Chief K.P. Gibson.
“During the search, our agents were able to locate and recover Mephedrone as well as synthetic marijuana and a firearm. All items were recovered from a controlled area behind the counter of the business” stated Chief Gibson. Upon completing the search, the owner of the business, Walter Jamal Jacoub, 59, of Lafayette was arrested for distribution of mephedrone, PWITD methedrone, PWITD synthetic marijuana and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. Jacoub was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
“Our agents did an outstanding job in resolving this criminal activity. We will continue our efforts, regardless of street level activity or owners of businesses selling illegal narcotics,” stated Gibson.
