MORGAN CITY – Louisiana State Police detonated three explosive devices at an Allison Street residence in Morgan City on Friday after they, along with local authorities, encountered the devices while attempting to execute a search warrant during an investigation into an allegation of molestation of a female juvenile.

After three bombs were detonated in a controlled area, the Morgan City Police Department continued their search in the 3000 block of Allison Street and arrested Thomas M. Breaux, 17, a resident of the home where the warrant was being executed, Morgan City Police Chief Marc Folse said. Breaux was charged with sexual battery of a minor, possession of child pornography and manufacture of a bomb, Folse said.

The warrant was issued in connection with an MCPD and LSP investigation into a case involving a single allegation of molestation of a 6-year-old female, Folse said. When both agencies attempted to issue a search warrant at the residence, they discovered what resembled a pipe bomb, the chief said.

Authorities halted their search, evacuated neighboring homes and shut down traffic on Allison between Roderick and Justa streets, Folse said.

The LSP Bomb Disposal Group, using special equipment — including a robot — removed the bomb from the residence and detonated it in a controlled pit, the chief said.

Folse said investigators then discovered two more explosive devices, which LSP bomb technicians detonated. The chief said authorities believe one of these could have been designed to detonate upon impact with a hard object.

After the detonations, investigators continued their search and seized unspecified items they deemed pertinent to the investigation. The search was complete at about 2 a.m. Saturday, and residents were allowed to return home and the roadways were reopened.
