According to police reports, the Eunice PD received a call from Walmart at 6:36 p.m.
According to police, Walmart Loss Prevention detained two women who had allegedly been observed filling their own handbags with meat and Louisiana crawfish.
Police say the women then attempted to leave the store with an estimated $600 worth of meat and seafood concealed in their bags.
Arrested were Tiffany Rutledge, 25, 1321 W. Peach St. and Sheri Benoit, 34, 148 Sarah Dr., Sunset. Both were charged with felony theft.
The store may have been on heightened alert following two similar incidents the same day, during which the suspects escaped.
Eunice Police received a call at 2:41 p.m. about a couple fleeing the store with a purse full of merchandise, driving a brown Dodge.
An hour before the alleged meat thievery, police received another call about a theft at Walmart; this time a man fled in a beige sedan.
No one has yet been arrested in either incident.
