LYONS POINT - Maria Angelle Broussard, the daughter of Kevin and Rechelle Broussard of Lyons Point, and Jean Luke Smith, the son of Kevin Smith of Mermentau Cove and Darren and Virginia LeGros of Lake Arthur, were united in marriage on Saturday, August 6, 2011 during a 1 p.m. nuptial mass held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lyons Point.
Father David Broussard performed the wedding ceremony with scriptures read by Holly Domingue and Matt Monceaux. Offertory gifts were presented by Karen Rabalais and Glia Legé. Musical selections for the wedding ceremony were provided by vocalist Kim Guidry and violinist Lauren Baker. They were accompanied by piano.
The bride is the granddaughter of Velta Simon of Lyons Point and the late Frank Simon, the late Jean Broussard and the late Theresa Broussard.
The groom is the grandson of Lester and Agnes Smith of Mermentau Cove and August and Vergie Legé of Andrus Cove.
The bride and groom are both 2010 graduates of Midland High School. The bride is currently enrolled at University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL), studying music education. The groom is also currently enrolled at ULL. He is studying kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science and he is employed by the ULL Kinesiology Department and City Club at River Ranch in Lafayette.
The bride was presented by her father. She was beautiful as she entered the church.
She wore an elegant satin gown with twist tank straps, double V-neck bodice and a side drape detail. The back of the gown featured a deep V and gorgeous gathers. Added to the neckline was alencon lace taken from her mother’s wedding gown. The veil was also detailed with the alencon lace to compliment the lace detail of the bride’s dress. The bride’s bouquet was a classic cascading assortment of white flowers. In keeping with tradition, the bride added the alencon lace as “something old.” The dress was “something new” and Maria “borrowed” from her mother sapphire jewelry, also representing “something blue.”
Attendants to the bride included her sister, Camille Broussard, who served as maid of honor. Additionally, Shevon Broussard, sister of the bride; Megan Legé, sister of the groom; and Brooke Smith, cousin of the groom, served as bridesmaids. Hayley Simon, cousin of the bride, was junior bridesmaid.
The attendants all dressed in tea length gowns in Pistachio which were accessorized with persimmon sashes. The bridesmaids carried multicolored bouquets filled with an assortment of different flowers.
The flower girl was Aislynn Legé, niece of the groom, and Aniya Legé, godchild of the groom.
The bride’s brother, Caleb Broussard, was the ring bearer.
The groom chose his step-brother, Tyler LeGros, as best man. Nicholas LeGros, step-brother of the groom, Darian Broussard, cousin of the groom, and Matthew Broussard, brother of the bride, were groomsmen. Luke Broussard, brother of the bride, was junior groomsman.
Other members of the wedding party included ushers Kevin Simon Sr., godfather of the bride, and Scotty Moring, cousin of the groom.
The mother of the bride, the former Rechelle Simon, wore a floor length midnight blue formal with a beaded empire waist and sheer cap sleeves.
The mother of the groom, the former Virginia Legé, wore an elegant floor length mocha formal accented with a gold broach.
After the exchange of the wedding vows, blessing and exchange of rings, a nuptial mass was held.
To celebrate, a reception took place at the Rice Festival Building in Crowley immediately following the wedding ceremony.
The bride’s cake was a five tier, old world style confection covered in fondant. The cake featured over piped decoration, drop flowers and molded fondant hearts and vases. It was topped with a traditional bride and groom cake topper.
The groom’s cake was a detailed cake, resembling a 45 pound workout weight.
After the ceremony, the couple will reside in Lafayette.
