Barney S. Foreman, a Lafayette resident and native of Lake Charles, died on Monday, August 22, 2011. He was 94 years of age. Mr. Foreman graduated from SLI (now ULL), where he played football and ran track. After graduation in 1939, he taught and coached in Crowley and Lake Charles and later worked at Mervine Kahn Department Store in Rayne, where he worked in the men's department, managed the hardware department, was the heating and air conditioning engineer and Treasurer. Mr. Foreman served on the Town Council of Rayne and was mayor pro-tem. He was a Scout Master and was active in many charitable causes. 
Barney Foreman was a fifty plus year Mason and Shriner. He served as Master of his lodge and was Potentate of Habibi Shrine Center in Lake Charles in 1988. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and served as Director in 1983. Mr. Foreman helped form the Rayne Chamber of Commerce, was past President and served on the Board of Directors of The Bank of Commerce and Trust Co. for over 30 years, was a member of the Lafayette Petroleum Club, was a founding member of the Lafayette City Club, was a member of the Lions Club and served as King of the Krewe of Prometheus in New Orleans. Mr. Foreman was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman until he was 92. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Aldea Bushnell Foreman; his first wife, Fleurette Kahn; his second wife, Elizabeth Peltier Duncan; his third wife, Leola Beatrice Gaudet; and his three brothers, Bobby Foreman, Bert Foreman, and Ted Foreman.
Survivors include his two sons, Dr. Julian Foreman and his wife Julene and Glenn Foreman and his fiance' Betty; one step-daughter, TyRona deValcourt-Malloy; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren: Margie Dixon and her husband James, Scott Foreman, Kylee Courville and her husband Chad, Kessler Reed, Bentley Dixon, Taylor Foreman, Piersen Reed, Kendall Reed, Cole Courville and Amielle Courville; and his two sisters, Maggie Thompson and Betty Picket.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at 11:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette. Interment will be in Hebrew Rest Cemetery.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
