The Rayne High Wolves will make an attempt Friday to keep their winning slate clear as they will host the Abbeville Wildcats of 9-3A.

With a 20-14 win over Welsh last week in front of a home crowd, the Wolves will try to impress their hometown fans with another win, this time against an agressive Abbeville team who fell hard to Westlake last week, 40-12.

When the field lights failed and a 90-minute delay caused the game to move venue, Abbeville was hit with another blow last week as their starting junior quarterback, Ross Duhon was literally knocked out of the game with a concussion, adding more damage to their already 28-6 halftime score.

Abbeville gave up a pair of 100-yard rushing performances from Devin Eaglin and Javoni Landry.

The Wildcats were led by tailback Patrick Landry who tallied 166 rushing yards and a touchdown.

But Abbeville’s offense was slowed down by four turnovers on fumbles, something the Wolves capitalized on last week during their 20-14 win over Welsh.

Not sure if their junior quarterback will be back in Friday’s game, Abbeville will take to the field against Rayne’s own junior quarterback, Clarence Leger, who has led the Wolves to an impressive start.

One downside to Friday’s contest will be the missing Brody Bourque, the Wolves’ leading rusher who is out with a leg fracture. He may be back in time for district.

Looks like teammates Jalen Williams and R.J. Buchanan will have to continue to step up their games. Each broke 100 yards on the ground during last week’s win over Welsh, Williams scoring two TD’s and Buchanan with one of his own.

Clarence Leger will attempt to get his passing game back in step this week as he was limited to only one completion in the Welsh win. He connected with Dannie Harmon from nine yards out.

“We’re entering this week’s game 2-0 and they (Abbeville) at 0-2,” stated Rayne Head Coach Curt Ware of Friday’s contest but he’s not taking anything for granted.

“They beat us the last two years we met,” Ware continued, “But they have very few starters returning this season.”

“What we need do this week is play a full and complete game. In the St Ed’s game, we played second half. When we played Welsh, we played the first half. We have to put it all together and play a full game, take it to them all four quarters and not give them a chance.”

The Wolves will try and keep their flawless record this week as they host Abbeville during a 7 p.m. contest Friday at Wolf Stadium.
