Two teen girls killed when vehicle leaves road, lands in on roof in Cane River

NATCHITOCHES – Two teenage girls died when their vehicle ran off the road and landed on its roof in Cane River.

State Police said Kelcie P. Vercher, 16 of Robeline, driver of a 2007 Ford Escape, was killed along with passenger Kaitlyn Rachal, 15, Natchitoches. A second 15-year-old, whose name was not released, was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. Saturday on Hampton Road north of La. 494, police said. Vercher was driving north on Hampton Road when she lost control and went off the road. The vehicle fell off the bank of Cane River and came to rest in the river on its roof.

Vercher and the unnamed passenger were not wearing their seat belts, police said. Rachal was wearing her seatelt. The crash remains under investigation.
