SONIC CARHOP Aaron McClaskey displays his winning silver medal and skates he received from Dr. Pepper, a sponsor of the“So You Think You Can Skate” finals competition held Sept. 11-12 in Las Vegas.
McClaskey, along with five other national finalists, showed off their skating prowess, personality and general carhopping skills in front of a panel of judges that included Food Network personality Sunny Anderson.
This was the second time Aaron has competed for the staking title. In is first appearance last year, McClaskey “didn’t medal.”
This year’s gold medalist winner, Adrian Aguillon of West Jordan, Utah, was also a returning competitor.
The bronze winner was Tremayne Dixon of Augusta, Ga.
McClaskey was selected from a number of entry videos submitted by skating Sonic crewmembers across the country. Crewmembers were asked to submit two-minute videos showcasing their talents, among which a panel of judges from Sonic Drive-In selected the six finalists.
As a silver medalist, McClaskey received $500 and the potential opportunity to participate in future SONIC promotions. All finalists were awarded an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the finals competition.
Last year, Aaron was accompanied by his father, Scott, to the national competition. This year, his mother, Cynthia, accompanied him to Las Vegas.
“Skating Carhops are uniquely Sonic and a cherished brand treasure,” said John Salama, vice president of training. “So You Think You Can Skate is a great way to showcase and recognize their talent and determine the top carhops on wheels.”
McClaskey wasn’t the only employee of The Kergan Group, the franchise group which operates 54 drive-ins in Louisiana. Gary Wilkerson, group president, was awarded the 2011 Multi-Unit Leaders Award for maintaining the highest standards in all phases of restaurant operations and displays strong guidance and leadership
