The social and ball will take place on Saturday, September 24 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Rice Festival Building at 717 West Mill Street in Crowley.
Kevin M. Berken, Festival Farmer of the Year, Phillip James Leonards, Festival Jr. Farmer of the Year, Steve Fontenot, Children’s Parade Grand Marshal, and former Governor Edwin W. Edwards, the Grand Parade Grand Marshal, will be recognized as well during the program.
Tickets are $15 each. They may be purchased in advance at the new Rice Festival Office located at 112 East Hutchinson Avenue in downtown Crowley. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door the night of the social and ball for the same price.
Music will be provided by Louisiana Red, a well known and very popular area band. The band has performed at several festival balls in the past and is well known for their dance music. Louisiana Red is known for playing popular Top 40 favorites as well as a solid repertoire of classic hits.
The Honorees’ Social will begin at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. An open bar will be available during the social hosted by local rice mills and other agricultural businesses in the area. Festival dignitaries will greet and mingle with guests during the social.
A free buffet will be available to all guests in attendance. Rice dishes will be the featured item on the menu.
The official program will begin at 7 p.m. with the recognition of each of the Festival’s dignitaries. Young ladies vying for the title of 75th Rice Festival Queen will be introduced that night. Visiting queens from festival throughout the state will be presented with their long stunning mantles, crowns, and beautiful smiles. What a sight it will be as they promenade around the festival building.
Other entertainment during the program will be several dance numbers performed by the well-known Ricettes under the direction of Dolores Nutt. Young violinist Hunter Jon Lambert will also be available during the night to serenade the guests with his talented performance.
Ann Mire, local librarian, will be on hand to sell copies of her book on the history of the Rice Festival entitled Rice Festival: 75 Years. 1937-2011. Only 150 copies will be available for sale. It will become a collector’s item. Be sure to purchase yours early to learn the fascinating history behind the Rice Festival.
Come out and join Festival goers for a fun-filled evening of socializing, eating, and dancing the night away as the International Rice Festival celebrates its diamond jubilee year. What a special night it will be for all in attendance!
