Eunice Police tasered a man who allegedly brandished a large knife and stuck his tongue out at officers before fleeing.

According to Eunice Police records, a call came in shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday of a driver waving a machete and threatening people as he drove by.

When police arrived at the corner of Corn and Aymond streets, they say the man raised a knife with a foot-long blade and stuck his tongue out at officers, then drove off.

The man refused to pull over for police, traveling north on Aymond, then east on Maple Avenue to Nimitz Street, according to police.

Police blocked his passage with several units as he travelled north on Nimitz.

The man exited and ran towards the rear of his vehicle, leaving the knife in his vehicle and ignoring commands to stop, police said.

The man was then tasered and taken into custody. The large knife was also recovered at that time, according to police records.

The man, Mark Wayne Darby, 59, of 330 Cotton St., was charged with flight from an officer, reckless operation and resisting an officer.

A family member notified police that Darby was suffering from mental and other medical issues, and Darby was released by summons to seek medical attention, police said.
