Lengefeld was a nurse for hospice for two-and a-half years as well as a home health care nurse before she began practicing as a registered nurse at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
The luncheon was hosted by friends on Monday, October 3 at 11 a.m. at the home of Bettie Rae Duhon of Crowley.
Food and punch was enjoyed by guests, followed by several homemade desserts such as cake and fruit parfaits.
Hostesses for the occasion were Duhon, Billy Clayton, Jerry Meche, Erma Breaux and Sylvia Barousse.
Lengefeld was married to the late Herb Lengefeld. She is the mother of four children. She has 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
“They will help me to stay busy,” said Lengefeld.
She also enjoys working in her yard and she does beautiful hand work such as crocheting and quilting. She also loves to play a card game called “Hand and Foot” with her friends. Lengefeld attends First Baptist Church of Crowley and is active volunteering at the Harvest Fest, which coincides with the International Rice Festival.
“Barbara and the other Harvest Fest committee members are planning several activities for the kids such as face painting, a display of antique tractors and we are making cotton candy and candy apples to sell,” said Barbara Lawson, who was in attendance at the party. “All of the proceeds stay right here in Crowley.”
Others present at Lengefeld’s retirement celebration were, but not limited to, Sherry Evans, Linda Fontenot, Marilyn Lawson, Linda Booth, Jackie Buescher, Joanna Pruitt, Pat Andrepont, Shirley Murrell and Donna Ancelet (Lengefeld’s daughter.)
