CROWLEY - The Crowley Police Department is looking to keep the public informed and they plan on using technology to help.

After setting up a website with many informative features earlier this year, the department is adding another–email alerts and newsletters.

“We want to be able to get information to the public as quickly as possible,” said Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson.

Signing up for the alerts is very simple, click on “Crowley PD Alerts” (which is on the right side of the screen) on the department’s website, www.crowleypolice.com. The only required piece of information is your email address, but you can elect to add your first and last name to the registration.

The system will send a confirmation email to your address and after clicking the link provided, your done.

Those that sign up can expect information about certain crimes, such as a burglary string that seems to be targeting a certain area, as well as a monthly newsletter to inform the public about the previous month.

“We want to keep people alert,” said Gibson. “And the more information we get out the better.”

So far the police department already has 197 people signed up and has set a goal to get 1,000 people by March.

They also hope to start using the alert/newsletter system very soon potentially within the next week.

“Our hope is to keep the public aware of what is going on in the department and in the area,” said Gibson.

He added that the alerts and newsletters will not just be for Crowley people, but for anyone that wants to be informed about what is going on in and around Crowley.
