According to State Fire Marshal Butch Browning, when firefighters arrived at the Leonie Street home, they found 47-year-old Elaine Thibodeaux Faul's body lying in her front yard.
Faul was rescued from the burning home by a neighbor before first responders arrived on the scene.
Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner yesterday.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire occurred and Faul's cause of death.
The home did have a smoke alarm according to investigators, however the battery had been removed.
Fire Marshal Browning says, "We have no conclusion at this time but will be working throughout the weekend in hopes of finding more answers."
