The 2:30 p.m. double-ring ceremony was officiated by Luke Allen, clergy.
The bride is the daughter of Matthew and Joan McGill of Benton. She is a 2008 graduate of Benton High School, attended the University of Texas at Arlington, and is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Northwestern State University in Shreveport.
The prospective groom is the son of Bobby and Amy Whatley of Rayne. His grandparents are Wayne and Joycelyn Young of Farmerville and Don and Edna Whatley of Downsville, formerly of Rayne. He is a 2005 graduate of Rayne High School, 2011 graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, and is currently employed as a middle school art teacher for the Caddo Parish School Board.
Against a musical background provided by Naomi Slagh, the bride entered the church on the arm of her father. She wore her mother’s pearl bracelet as something old, her dress and shoes were something new, she borrowed her aunt’s earrings and wore a blue-accented garter for her traditional items.
The bride wore an elegant wedding dress of candlelight satin designed with a sweetheart neckline and sashed bodice from which flowed a full cathedral-length skirt. She carried a bridal bouquet of white and yellow roses.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was Kella Kicklighter, close friend.
Matron of honor was another close friend, Leslie Snyder.
Bridesmaids were Sierra Irwin and Talitha Summers.
Serving as flower girl was Claire Allen.
Attending the groom as best man was a close friend, Chris Hudson.
Groomsmen were Zack Comeaux, Aaron Newsom and Jordan Mire, friends.
Serving as ushers were Carson and Evan Whatley, brothers of the groom.
Immediately following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds were honored during a reception held at the Woodlawn Country Club in Fort Worth.
Among the refreshments provided for guests was the bride’s cake, a white confection accented with yellow roses. The groom’s cake was a unique Italian cream confection.
Following a wedding trip to the Bahamas, the couple’s residing in Shreveport.
Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held the evening of Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at the McFarland home in Fort Worth. The groom’s parents served as hosts and provided guests with a traditional Cajun meal consisting of jambalaya with all the sides, in addition to a number of assorted desserts.
