Lady Wolves halted in state softball regionals

The #18-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves were halted last week in the regional round of the 2012 state softball playoffs.

In Thursday afternoon action, the Lady Wolves hosted #2-ranked Brusly at Gossen Memorial Park where the Lady Panthers flexed their #2 muscle with a 13-0 shutout.

The lone hit for the Lady Wolves came off the bat of Amanda Bourque in the fourth inning, advancing Whitney Fontenot who reached base on an infield error.

With Fontenot and Bourque on base, Haley Habetz reached first base when she was hit by a pitch.

With the bases loaded and a good chance of gaining ground, the third out was signaled and their chances slipped away.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Wolves went down in order for the 13-0 loss.

Taking the loss for the Lady Wolves was senior hurler Haley Habetz. Kaitlyn Ledoux filled in for the final two innings to close out the game.

The Lady Panthers collected 10 hits for their 13 runs.

The Lady Wolves advanced to the regional round of the 2012 Softball 3-A State Playoffs with a 16-5 bi-district win at #15 Vidalia.

In their bi-district win, Habetz scored the win on the mound for the Lady Wolves while also scoring four runs and 2 RBI’s on two hits and a double.

Cecily Schexnyder banged out four hits with a triple and RBI.

Amanda Bourque was also productive at the plate with three hits, a double, 2 RBI’s and two runs scored.

Adding to the barage of Rayne High hits was Alex Peltier (3 hits, run, 2 RBI, double), Katelyn LeDoux (3 hits, 2 runs, bunt, RBI) and Whitney Fontenot (3 hits, 2 runs, double).

Taking one for the team was Sidney Fontenot who collected a hit-by-pitch while turning in 3 hits, 2 runs, double, RBI and bunt.

Kristin Gaspard also donated three hits while scoring 2 runs on a double and 2 RBI’s.

Reaching base on three walks was Mollie Simon.

Concluding their senior campaign were Haley Habetz and Bianca Threatts.
