The Rayne High Wolves didn’t end their regular schedule as they would have liked, but to state they will go.

Coming off their recent wins against Church Point and Port Barre, the Wolves traveled to Eunice on Tuesday for their last district contest of the 2012 season.

The Bobcats avenged their first round district loss with an 11-1 romping of the Wolves.

The Bobcats opened the gates early on, scoring five runs in the very first inning.

The Wolves answered with a run in the second on a Grant Menard RBI double, knocking in Brice Meche, who was on base following a double of his own.

With the Wolves trailing 5-1, the Bobcats added another couple runs in the third inning, a triple threat in the fourth, and nailed down the shutout in the fifth inning with a run for the 11-1 win.

Eunice tallied 10 hits compared to Rayne’s four by Menard, Meche, Jacob Stelly and Matt Dore.

Hunter Keely was hit with the loss on the mound for the Wolves allowing nine hits, 10 runs and three walks and strikeouts.

In a warm-up game Thursday, the Wolves traveled to Opelousas where they met Westminister.

In a tight contest, Westminster squeezed out a 4-2 win over the Wolves.

Entering the four inning scoreless, Wolf Grant Menard scored on a Matt Doré double.

But, Westminster answered with a run of their own to knot the score at 1-all.

A couple of miscues allowed Westminster to score three more runs in the fifth inning.

Rayne answered with a run in the sixth seeing Brice Meche tag home.

But, it was not enough for the 4-2 non-district loss, brining their season record to 12-15 overall.

Playoffs

Following results of power rankings, the Wolves will enter the state playoffs at #27, coming off a 7-3 district tally, tied with #10-ranked Eunice. Both follow #3-ranked Livonia, who finished their district slate undefeated.

Rayne will have their hands full Friday in first round action when they meet intra-parish rival Notre Dame. The Pios enter the playoffs at #6.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Miller Stadium in Crowley.
